Akron Civic Theatre Long recognized among the community's cultural landmarks, the Akron Civic Theatre has a rich and spectacular history. It has provided the community with a venue for quality entertainment and live performances for over seventy years. During that time, hundreds of thousands of people have been thrilled by various theatrical presentations, both on stage and on screen. The Theatre was built in 1929 and designed by famed theatre architect, John Eberson. The interior structure was fashioned after a Moorish castle featuring Mediterranean decor, including medieval carvings, authentic European antiques and Italian alabaster sculptures. The Civic's auditorium was built to resemble a night in a Moorish garden, complete with clouds that drift across the theatre's domed ceiling and stars that twinkle. Among facilities of its size, The Civic is one of only five remaining atmospheric theatres in the country. Akron Civic Theatre |

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens Located in Akron, Ohio, Stan Hywet Hall is one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America. The majestic 65-room country house sits on 70 acres of artfully landscaped gardens and grounds. Stan Hywet Hall (Old English for "Stone Quarry") was built between 1912 and 1915 by early industrialist and Goodyear co-founder F.A. Seiberling and his wife, Gertrude. The estate was designed to accommodate their active lifestyles and large family. It also allowed the couple to lavishly entertain business associates, friends, and prominent members of the community. Stan Hywet was designed by noted Cleveland architect, Charles Schneider. Another Clevelander and one of the fathers of American landscape design, Warren Manning, served as landscape architect for the gardens. Stan Hywet's English garden is the only restored Ellen Biddle Shipman garden in the country open to the public. Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens | |
