Anti-Fracking Parade & Rally
A group of residents concerned about the potential ill effects of horizontal fracturing natural gas drilling is taking to the streets. Concerned Citizens Ohio has plans for a 30 minute march – followed by a rally. The group said it is protesting fracking’s environmental impacts and people’s rising anger “that they can no longer protect their own properties.”
The march begins at The Kent Stage and will proceed east on Main Street to the Kent State University campus, then return to the Kent Stage for speeches and songs. Two speakers set for the event are Dr. Ted Voneida, a Kent neurobiologist, and Jaimie Frederick of Coitsville. The purpose of the meeting is to inform residents about the impacts of fracking and the rights residents have and how to protect the air, water, land and property values.
Also great music by Jen Mauer (at the stage) and great drumming by Shawn Cline (during the march). Doughnuts and hot chocolate afterward at the stage.
Location : The Kent Stage, 175 East Main Street – downtown Kent
