Bloetscher, Virginia Chase.  1980.  Indians of the Cuyahoga Valley and Vicinity.  Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio: Cuyahoga Valley Archaeological Society.  
------- This is the ultimate source for information concerning the Indians and Indian lifestyle on and around the Cuyahoga River.  Detailed descriptions of both Prehistoric and Historic periods of the area are intriguing, as is the history of Indian-White interactions.  


Ellis, William Donohue.  1998.  The Cuyahoga.   Dayton, Ohio: Landfall Press, Inc.
------- This comprehensive book accounts for much of the local history of the Cuyahoga River and area, creating vivid descriptions of the River itself and the communities it spawned.


Jesensky, Joseph D.  1999.  Joe's Place: Conversations on the Cuyahoga Valley.   Peninsula, Ohio:  The Cuyahoga Valley Association.
------- This fascinating book contains the memoirs of Joe and his eighty-year experience with the Cuyahoga River.  This book contains his intimate knowledge of the Lower Cuyahoga River and the Cuyahoga Valley.  


Bobel, Peg and Rob.  1998.  The Nature of the Towpath.  Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council, Inc.
------- This book is designed as a field guide specifically for the Cuyahoga Valley, cataloging the diverse and rich wildlife, flowers, and trees in the area.


Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area Trail Guide Handbook (2nd Edition).  1996.  Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council, Inc.
-------  The ultimate guide to the CVNRA (CVNP); with excellent maps, photos, historical references and a comprehensive understanding of all the many trails and parks within the park system.  


Beach, David.  1998.  The Greater Cleveland Environment Book.  Cleveland, Ohio: Orange Blossom Press.
-------  A discussion of urban and environmental issues in Northeast Ohio.  A great source for citizens and activists who are concerned about our bioregion. 


Combs, Rick and Gillen, Steve.  1994.  Canoeing and Kayaking Ohio's Streams. Woodstock, Vermont:  Backcountry Publications.
------- The section in the book concerning the Cuyahoga River provides useful navigation information for paddlers and anglers.  This book contains an invaluable map showing the access points of the River.


McGovern, Frances.  1996.  Written on the Hills: The Making of the Akron Landscape.  Akron, Ohio:  The University of Akron Press.
-------  A wonderful account of the environmental and cultural events which created Akron.  As for the Cuyahoga River, this book gives an account of the glaciers, forests, and geology of this locale.


Abercrombie, Jay.  1996.  Walks and Rambles in Ohio's Western Reserve.  Woodstock, Vermont:  Backcountry Publications.
------- This guidebook maps and describes courses for walks and hikes in Northeast Ohio, and the sections concerning the Cuyahoga River and Valley give relevant information for hikers.


Impoundment of the Cuyahoga River at Lake Rockwell by the City of Akron - I wrote this paper last year, but since then the issue has gained popularity and additional information can be found in local papers.
