Concerns about the Cuyahoga River as written on surveys:
- Trash.
- Trash.
- Clean, fresh, safe.
- It's brown and you can't see the bottom.
- Drinkable water and safe fish.
- Dirty.
- Too much pollution and trash in it.
- It looks really dirty, and has scummy foam floating around. It makes me sad to see such an element of nature and history go to waste.
- Personally, it sucks. There is a lot of scum on it -- that green stuff. And it smells worse.
- Though the river has improved greatly in my lifetime, still, it seems as if it is still tainted somewhat by industrial waste.
- Pollution is always a big factor.
- Pollution: runoff from sewers / storm drains, runoff from roads, trash dumping, siltation, industrial wastes, acid rain -- All major problems.
- The chemicals that are imbedded in the bottom.
- I hear various reports, now and again, that there are various troubles with the cleanliness and toxins.
- It should be swimmable all the time until Akron.
- I'd rather it didn't catch on fire again. All life in the river is disappearing and therefore the life in the Great Lakes is disappearing.
- I don't know much about it, but I guess in general I'm concerned about toxic industrial stuff in any river and litter/ugly trash stuff.
- Filter it more.
- There are no good holes in Kent, plus it's dirty and stinky.
- Pollution and animal conditions.
- It just looks plain gross.
- I love sitting along the banks of the Cuyahoga River -- the only problem -- a beautiful river shouldn't have trash floating all along it, and it shouldn't smell as disgusting as it does. I'd like to see it cleaned up.
- Smelly.
- From research, the river needs a large improvement in the area of industrial pollution.
- Poisoned.
- Agricultural and industrial waste.
- Fire.
- Disease.
- Sediment, algae.
- There is a lot of runoff untreated put into the river. Waterflow is poor, too.
- The sight of it is awful. Total disregard of appearance of it. No maintenance given to it.
- It's not taken care of, and needs help; the water is too dirty.
- Main concerns are runoff sediment from urban sprawl development and low water volume due to Akron's water "needs." I love to paddle.
- Water should be cleaner, and people/companies which used to dump garbage should take a part in cleaning.
- Industrial effluence, these corporations are breaking the law by polluting our river. It is not their river to pollute. These corporations need to be punished. One way is to punish the chief officers of the corporation by imprisonment and fines.
- Concerned about water quality after Akron gets water.
- Too many people ignoring it.
- Non-point source (pesticides, fertilizer, petroleum dioxins, etc.), siltation, loss of diversity.
- Not healthy.
- Pollution -- cannot use river as a dumping area -- take responsibility for yourself (and those you know) to not pollute and help with community action type responsibility.
- Not very informed.
- The low flow rate in summer due to diversion of water through Akron water treatment system. (Taken out at Lake Rockwell and put back in in valley.)
- Combined sewer overflows. Wet weather effluent release.
- The wastewater plant at the end and the water plant at the other.
- Industrial pollution.
- Good.
- Too much usage by Akron reduces water quality for everyone.
- Don't have enough info.
- Non-point source pollution, treatment plant overflow, combined storm and sanitary sewer system overflow.
- Bacteria, chemicals.
- I would like to see it cleaner. I'm concerned about Akron taking our water supply and all of us using too much.
- Too much trash, but apparently the blue herons love it.
- None for where I see it -- questionable quality when you look at it in the Flats.
- Environmental.
- Is it improving?
- The amount of particles from treatment plants like Kent's and Streetsboro's still being
- Needs cleaned up and used sparingly.
- That it continues to be clean, responsible management so it doesn't catch on fire, as in the past.
- Needs to be cleaned up.
- Toxic industrial discharges, pesticides/herbicides -- even though I know it has improved.
- New housing developments with quick, inadequate sewer systems overloading septic systems, etc.
- Stealing it from Portage County.
- Water will be diverted and the water quality will deplete once more.
- Akron water supply re-introduces contaminants.
- Industrial pollution.
- Environmental health.
- I'd just like to know how "clean" or preserved it really is.
- Use by ships.
- What toxins are being dumped in the River?
- Water quality needs to be improved by lowering dams and creating more flow.
- Too many pollutants.
- It may catch on fire.
- Keep falls. Get Akron to not divert water.
- I remember when the river burned. I think a great job has been accomplished in cleaning up the River.
- Swimming, fish.
- Mercury level in the water.
- Better than two decades ago, but a long way to go.
- Pollution from industrial waste.
- Keep Akron in check; they need to dam less of the water flow. Enforce industry inspections for water pollutions.
- Will it be better in ten years?
- What gets dumped into it.
- That Akron may lower the level and hurt Kent's portion.
- Smell.
- Pollution.
- Keep it clean. Leave the dam.
- Low water quality due to lack of sufficient flow from time to time; runoff.
- Overflow of sewage in storms.
- Don't know anything about the quality.
- To get it to its original healthy origin.
- Needs improvement.
- Trust in who's in charge.
