Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a correlation between Northeast Ohio’s residents’ ages, locations of residences, and opinions of the River. My hypothesis for this study is that those residents who have lived in the Northeast region of Ohio for over thirty years, who can actively remember the infamous state of the Cuyahoga River in the 1960’s and 1970’s, are more likely to have a negative opinion of the present condition of the River than those residents who have only seen the River in the last twenty years. This study was conducted using a straight-forward survey which also included a section for all participants to voice their concerns and/or opinions about the River.

The results of this study show that the hypothesis was wrong; the oldest respondents (60+)  of the survey had a higher general opinion of the River than any other age group.  As seen on the map, there is no correlation between opinions and residents' locations, though broader sampling is recommended for this to be conclusive.
