Children's Book
Author
to Visit Logos

Saturday, April 12
Book signing from 10-11
|
Cynthia Furlong Reynolds will sign copies of her newest release, Oliver's Travels: An Ohio Adventure, at Logos Bookstore on Saturday from 10-11 in the morning.
The publisher, Mitten Press, describes the book: "Oliver, a tiny mouse from northwestern Ohio, dreams big dreams and longs for grand adventures. When his great-uncle Tobias gives him a piece of a very old treasure map, Oliver sets off from the safety of his home on a journey that will take him across the state of Ohio. He follows the cryptic symbols that surround the map to discover more than a small mouse could have imagined about his home state."
The book guides children on a fun reading adventure that they can turn into a real adventure this summer as people travel around the entire state. Ohio landmarks, such as Cedar Point, the Rutherford B. Hayes Home, Perry's Monument, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are important elements of the plot. Ohio state facts and symbols are incorporated into the story, too.
This book is geared especially to third and fourth grade students, who are studying local and state history as part of their core content during the school year. Children are welcome to talk with the author while at Logos. Mrs. Reynolds enjoys speaking with students about writing and history.
The author will sign copies of her books at Logos from 10-11 this Saturday. Logos Bookstore is located at 976 West Main Street in Kent. For more information, call the store at 330-673-6099 or visit the Website at: www.kentlogos.com. Signed copies will be available after the event, also. |

- WHAT:
There are three parts to the festival:
1) Independent short films from around the world. This portion includes documentaries, animation, short comedy, collages, music videos, and short drama. It features work by filmmakers from as close as Northeast Ohio and from as far away as Australia, England, Ireland, and Canada.
Among the submissions are works by award winning filmmakers such as Grace Channer (who spent 15 years on a series of animated paintings for her film “But Some Are Brave”), Jeremy Mayhew (who created a unique music video by animating antique engravings), and Aube Giroux (whose socially conscious documentary takes on the world of genetically modified food).
2) Featured filmmaker Dustin Grella. Last year's "Best of Fest" and "People's Choice" award winner Dustin Grella returns as our featured filmmaker. He will be previewing his latest work as well as discussing the techniques behind his incredible chalkboard animation titled "Glimpse."

Make your downtown memories last a lifetime. Have your photo taken
with one of the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales. They will greet the public on North Water Street from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to pose with one of the magnificent “gentle giants.” |
The world famous
Budweiser Clydesdales,
the symbol of quality and tradition for Anheuser-Busch since 1933, are scheduled to make an appearance in downtown Kent on the evening of October 11. The Clydesdales’ appearance in Kent is one of 300 made annually by the five traveling hitches. Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to America in the mid-1800’s. Today, the giant draft horses are used primarily for breeding and show.
Horses chosen for the Budweiser Clydesdale Hitch must be at least three years of age, stand approximately 18 hands – or six feet – at the shoulder, weight an average of 2000 pounds, must be bay in color, have four white stockings, and a blaze of white on the face and black mane and tail. A gentle temperament is very important, as hitch horses often meet millions of people each year.
Two tractor trailers carry the Clydesdales and a third brings along everything else – the historic beer wagon, harnesses, and other gear.
Parade 5:30 to 6:30 PM
Meet the Clydesdales afterwards! |
